Proposal at Crystal Bridges!

Hey everybody!

Guys can be so romantic! Imagine walking in to the Great Hall at Crystal Bridges and seeing it all cleared out except one table in the middle of the room containing a gorgeous arrangement of flowers, a bottle of champagne and two glasses, and a portrait of a gorgeous couple. Can you see it? Well, that's what Jessica walked in to moments before Tyler dropped to one knee...

She of course said yes!

Look at that ring!  Holy moly!

The gorgeous engaged couple...

These two love each other like crazy, and look fabulous in pictures! Here are some of my favorites from the session...

Absolutely GAGA over the lighting here! AHHHHHH!!!!

And of course, a little Benny Backlight! Mmmmmmm.....

Hey everybody!

We absolutely LOVE photographing weddings at Crystal Bridges: the lighting is always so pretty, and you have about a million different options for portrait locations! Heather Pile, and the team at Inspired Grace Events, did a beautiful job of designing the room! Althea from Rose of Sharon also rocked out the florals! Have a look!

What's #Trending: #Glitter!

Hey All!!

Glitter has been a huge trend at weddings this year. Whether it is a bold statement, or something subtle and small, we are seeing it everywhere... and love it! At Kady and Tyler's DIY wedding in the Clinton Library Museum, she also had glitter block letters in front of the cake! By the way, her metallic cake is to die for!!

We saw glitter used in a unique way at Lydia and Caul's art deco wedding in Fayetteville, AR. Members of the Finishing Touch Event Design team spray-painted baby's breath with glitter to place around the Arkansas Air Museum, where the beautiful reception was held. The end product was an absolutely stunning decoration!! We just can't get enough!

At the same wedding, smaller tables, around the reception area, were covered with gold glitter sequined tablecloths that added to the feel of the 1920s art deco vibe!

Adding glitter to a wedding can be a little scary, but keep it simple, and the details will only add perfection to your big day!

At Addie and Chad's wedding in Carthage, MO, she personalized her reception with gold glitter block 'MR. & MRS.' letters. It was such a beautiful touch to her teal and ivory theme!!

And lastly, one from Meg's reception:

Stay classy,
Stephanie

Hey everybody!

I love color! Afton and Ryan's engagement session was filled with it! Afton has such a fabulous style (not to mention personality), so photographing her was seriously sooo much fun! I could have spent all evening running them around Fayetteville shooting!
I know I saw this from time to time, but we really enjoy getting to know our wedding couples, and we feel like we attract couples that are a lot like us. Well, this is Afton and Ryan to a T! We have so much in common, and we all already feel like instant friends, so it makes me even more excited to photograph their wedding in December! In the meantime, enjoy this colorful engagement session!

Kirstie and Michael's Outdoor Wedding

Hey everybody!

If you've ever heard Kirstie's laugh, you know right away what draws everybody to her! I've known her since my teaching days, and I was so happy she wanted Benfield Photography to photograph her outdoor wedding! I knew I was in for a good time, and that's exactly what I had. Many times, I can be found crying as a couple recites vows, but as Kirstie was laughing during her ceremony, she had us all cracking up as we watched. It was evident that she was just SO HAPPY! I love that! Here are a handful of faves from her wedding day. Enjoy the sweetness!

Maybe my favorite moment of the year so far! Kirstie's mother showed some true emotion as Kirstie's dad walked her down the aisle.

How fun is this getaway shot?!! LOVE!

Hey everybody!

I can't take too much credit; the interior design of our house is due in large parts to Mere, and countless gifts by our BFF Kirsten (owner of Riffraff), but I'm proud of it nonetheless! Read all about it in this month's issue of Citiscapes magazine!

Our house is nothing "fancy" but we have a fun style and it's definitely a home that I'm proud to raise Ellie and Cece in, be a family in, and of course cook in! :)

Benfield Family Vacation: Hollywood!

Hey everybody!

Ellie turned 9 recently and as her main present, I told her she could pick a place in the US she wanted to take a trip to, and she chose Hollywood! So, off we went on a fun little California adventure as a family.

Let me just say, it's weird to take a trip for personal reasons instead of business. I'm always traveling for business (did you see our new travel page on our website?!), but I totally enjoyed it!

It was LA Food week, so we enjoyed some amazing meals (for more of those, check out my instagram feed - I met one of the most famous chefs in the world!); Here we have a little Gordon Ramsay at the London.  The signature Beef Wellington was all we had hoped for! And the sticky toffee pudding was insane.

We of course stayed at the W Hollywood (and the W San Diego).  We love being platinum members - we got a ridiculous upgrade (again, on my instagram!)

Cece loved her Shamu hat... we made a little day trip out of San Diego's Seaworld and Zoo.

Ellie took the next few pics.  Don't we look a bit lost here??? Haha!

One of my new favorite pics of me and Cece... taken by Ellie.

Another amazing Ellie shot of Cece and me.  That girl!

We relaxed and swam at the rooftop pool of the W Hollywood a couple days.  Cece and Ellie both love the water... and each other.

This was at the Santa Monica Pier, where Cece was introduced to the ocean.

She didn't hate it!

Of course, Ellie's like a fish so she loved it.

These two... crazy for each other, that's for sure!

So, we loved our week in LA. Well, driving aside.  I'm not going to lie... I don't know how everyone in LA doesn't go crazy with their terrible traffic.  I could never live there... unless I had a private helicopter to tote me around.  But the food was amazing, the sites were gorgeous, and we had such a nice bonding time!

Not Your Typical Wedding Cake

$

Hey All!

For many years, the white cake has been the go-to for receptions. While these cakes are classic and timeless, the wedding cake is due for a fun upgrade! Here are some cakes that are a little less traditional, but will make a statement at your wedding!!

Shelby Lynn's Cake Shoppe is a great place to pick up a fun and different cake!
Here is the cake from Dale and Meredith's reception...love LOVE the gold details on the turquoise background!! If you don't want to stray too far from the traditional cake, here is an example that will still add some pizazz to your reception! In love with this gold cake draped in white flowers! Stunning!
This one is perfect for a fall wedding!

And last, my favorite...a rice crispy treat groom's cake, complete with robots on top! Robots = true love! This is definitely a step away from the traditional cake. I am also in love with the blue ombre cake for Meg and Carter's wedding!

Stay Classy,
Stephanie

Hey everybody!

Andrea emailed me a couple weeks before the shoot and said something kinda like this...
"... if you have any crazy ideas you've been saving for an adventurous couple, bring 'em on. We're down for anything."
Obviously, I love that!  I wrote back, "Do you happen to have a canoe?"
Haha! And that's how it began!

And this is how it ended. LOVE this shot!

Here are some other favorites from the session. Enjoy!

Trent and Lauren's St. Louis Wedding Details

$

0

Hey everybody!

Being around weddings every weekend for 15 years, you'd think I would get de-sensitized to all the sweet moments that a wedding can bring, but I don't. Each week, it's different and special. Each week I have a new bride to be happy for, and since I feel like I'm great friends with my clients... I feel like each week I get to go to a friend's wedding (albeit with my camera and a shootsac full of lenses... haha!).

Lauren has followed the blog for years, and when she and Trent (also a wedding photographer!) got engaged, she knew she had to have us, even if we lived in Fayetteville and they were building a house and getting married in Saint Louis. We love traveling, especially for gorgeous brides like Lauren (who is equally sweet as she is pretty!).

Trent isn't your typical groom. Being a wedding photographer, he (like me) loves all things wedding. He was excited that his wedding day was finally here, and that he had his best friends to share it with. For his groomsmen gifts, he present them with Burberry ties. If you know me, you know how much I adore a good Burberry check! That's a great groomsmen gift! To take his gift-giving skills a bit further, Lauren got a beautiful Tiffany & Co gift bag with her "something blue" inside. Nice, right?! Some more of their "getting ready" details are below...

His and hers designer shoes. Love Badgley Mischka wedding shoes... always!  And Cole Haan makes some great men's shoes!

Look at this dress!  The details and flourishes are breathtaking! It's all in the details!

Her bouquet was gorgeous (vendors below), and she wrapped her bouquet with lace from her mother's wedding dress.  How precious is that bouquet idea! Way to make it personal, Lauren!!

Trent had to rock the Burberry as well as his groomsmen.  And isn't Lauren STUNNING?!

Trent sure thought so!  Here he is seeing his bride for the first time.  What a moment.

I love old St. Louis churches! Well, I think it's actually in Clayton, but whatevs.  Isn't is gorgeous?!

Ah, the first kiss as husband and wife. I love the expressions on the maid of honor and best man as well.

OMG.... CUTEST Flower girl ever.  She was a ham all day!

Finally, a beautiful bubble exit from the church.  I rarely get to shoot these the way I want since it's normally darker, but this is pretty much perfection. Don't the bubbles look super cool in all their blurriness?  The is a framer for sure!

Tomorrow I'm going to share the reception with you, and mention a few key peeps (aka St. Louis wedding vendors) that made the day pretty much perfect.  Stay tuned for that!

Dale

Crown Plaza Wedding Reception of Trent and Lauren

$

0

Hey everybody!

Let's continue the Trent and Lauren show! Their reception was absolutely to-die-for with really beautiful centerpieces, one of the coolest groom's cakes I've ever seen (hehe... you'll see!), and lots of dancing! I mean, LOTS of dancing! It was so fun!

I've said a number of times on the blog that I absolutely LOVE (and prefer) working with wedding coordinators because 1) they let us NOT be the coordinator 2) it allows the bride to be the bride (not the decision maker, setter-upper, breaker-downer, etc.), and everything always runs way more smoothly. Jenny at Before I Do (link below) was great and making everything run on schedule and look amazing. If you're planning a St. Louis wedding, check her out!

My favorite detail from this wedding was our place card.  Mere and I LOVE when our couples consider us guests.  I mean, we always have to eat, but it's nice to not have to cower in the corner or hide in the back.  Hahaha!  Aren't the flowers GORGEOUS?!?!  Great job by Tina Barrera (link below) on these bridal bouquet and centerpieces!

Okay... step back... admire this groom's cake for a sec... It has our photography on it!  Yay! That's a first for us!  Isn't it super cool and creative???

THIS CENTERPIECE! I die.

The Crown Plaza in Clayton has a beautiful ballroom for wedding receptions.  Those chandeliers are ridiculous!

So I had to include them in our very sweet first dance shot.  Agree? :)

I love this action.  The couple was killing it. All.Night.

I thought it would be nicer for me to put this shot rather than the one that followed.  Girls straight up hit the floor! hahaha!

It was a party!

Okay...

tomorrow...
