Sunday Superthoughts: A Life Worthwhile

Hey everybody!

Albert Einstein would turn 135 this week, and I thought I'd post a sunday superthought about one of my favorite Einstein quotes:

Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.

When those you are trying to live for are cuties like Ellie, Cece, and Mere, it makes it a bit easier.

I sure am thankful.

Man Crush Monday: #MCM

Hey everybody!

I know we talk a lot about how gorgeous our Benny Brides are, but why can't our grooms get any love? Today's post is dedicated to all the grooms out there... we've got some great ones!

First up, here's Kurt. I've been able to spend a lot of time with Kurt lately and he's just a great, fun dude. He's a chef, which I obviously love... and knows good food! He's got an 11-month-old boy, Curren, and told me he's "what it's all about." I love a good Dad!

Ben is the newest addition to the Dad's club; he and Jamie just had sweet Millie on February 23rd. He's definitely going to be a great dad!

A true manly man, Taylor is a sexy dude, super adventurous, and a great dancer (obviously I know this from photographing his reception).

Tiago is Brazillian.  Enough said.

Carter should probably be first on my list. I've got him on repeat on my iTunes (check him out here)... he is an amazingly talented musician. He's also humble (my favorite quality in any person) and sincere. He makes you feel like the most important person in the room.

What I love about Andrew is how chill and cool he is. That, and how much he loves Andrea. Oh, and did I mention he's like a super bio-chemical engineering genius?!

Matt is just a sweet, sweet guy. I haven't shot their wedding yet, but the seeing him before he proposed was just about the sweetest thing I've ever seen.  Oh, and I'm a bit jealous of that hair.

My dude Josh. He's another one of those make-you-feel-important types of guys. He's always in a good mood (seriously!) and laughs at all my jokes... even the ones that aren't very funny.  He and Chelsey welcomed Beckham at the end of January, and Josh is already a nurturing dad.

Great hair, great style, always has a smile on his face... Mark is a former Razorback football player (go Hogs!), and is probably used to being the coolest guy in the room, but you'd never know it when you talk to him. Another humble, but super talented, groom.

Doug married Amy on New Year's (just one reason he's so smart).

Matt met Ashley on a cruise, and then married her (not on the cruise... haha!). He's got style, taste, and can brew his own beer. C'mon!

Trent is a fellow photographer with loads of talent, a great personality, and has serious style (Burberry, anyone?!)

Matt, besides his dashing good looks, is also a professional fisherman.  As in... he gets PAID... to FISH. Does it get better?

Mike is our resident bad-boy. Tattoos and an attitude to say whatever he is thinking, Mike is a fun guy to be around. He picked up his now-wife while driving in the car next to her on a road trip. Gutsy, but that's Mike.

Finally, we've got Rob. Construction worker turned destination wedding photographer, you can't keep up with his adventures. A man good with his hands and an artful eye is definitely a catch (pun intended, as you see the pic below).

This was such a fun blog post to write.  I have so many others over the past 15 years, so I might just have to do this again!

Hashtag Week Continues: Tuesday Boozeday!

Hey everybody!

I could've taken the easy road and did a transformation Tuesday, but where's the fun in that? Instead, we're doing another well-known IG hashtag based on Tuesday: Tuesday Boozeday, where IGers post sessy, drinky, party pics. As a wedding photographer, I've got a few of those. Heehee! We take pride in our party shots, and try to truly capture the mood and feel of the reception by showing the amazing light our couples create. Have a look at some silly shots!

Woman Crush Wednesday: #WCW

Hey everybody!

Well, obviously I have to start with my wife, Meredith. The absolute, most stunning bride... I remember watching her walk down the aisle (yes, we had a first look too, but this moment was still so special)... I was thinking, is this real life? I'm a lucky, lucky guy!

Sarah, who says herself that she isn't known for having amazing style, has probably the most pinned dress on pinterest. Not lying, I get emails every day about this dress - a Lazaro dress (no longer in production) - Lazaro dresses can be found in Fayetteville at Tesori! Just to cut down on the number of emails I get... hahaha!

Chelsea is just a stunner. That's all there is to it. She is sweet as candy, super pretty, and is the best person to have a conversation with. She's been all over the world, and is super knowledgeable about one of my favorite topics: food! :) For their wedding gift I got her the book: the Complete Robuchon. Anyway, she and Tyler feel like they are my lifelong friends... that's just the kind of people they are! Also, they welcomed Slone into the world last year, and I'm already working on a possible arranged marriage for Cece. Haha!

Paige is one of the most amazing people I've ever met... when she worked for Benfield Photography, our production went up like a thousand percent. She's go-getter, super creative, and very very thoughtful.

Brooke has so many great qualities. Not only is she a talented dancer (one of my favorite memories of her is when she and I went to Ghana together for Art Feeds, and she danced for the kiddos), but she has the sweetest heart I've ever seen in a person. She's dedicated her life to giving back, and is such an inspiration!

Lydia and I had so much fun at her reception. I think I left there thinking we were best friends. Haha! She's also absolutely gorgeous, and so fun to hang out with! And don't even get me started on her sense of style. Her wedding dress is just the tip of that iceberg.

OMG... Kady. Kady is just Kady. Impeccable taste, gaspy (my made up word for her) style, and beautiful, Kady is such a perfect Benny Bride.

I've already spent blog post after blog post talking about how much I adore Allison. She reached out to Mere and me when we were going through crazy life and offered to help. She's just that type of person! I love Allison because she's the perfect mix of super sexy (as the back of her dress will tell) but in an understated and classic way. She's just a dream!

So I tried not to do any wives of our #MCM, but with Chelsey, I just couldn't leave her off this list.  She's been such a good friend for so long, and even a best friend at times, she's super talented (mad art skills), very creative, and... a NEW MOM! That's a lucky kid!

Athena is not like other brides.  Her classic beauty and fun personality make her fun to photograph. But she's also funky (that's probably not the right word)... unique... I just need to invent a new word for her.  Anyway, she's in the process of making it big in Cali, which I have no doubt she'll do!

Signe, obviously super stylish (she has her own fashion blog, Signeroo), is crazy and awesome and fun. She seems to know everybody, and everyone just loves her!  It's easy to see why after you spend... I don't know... a SECOND with her!

Ashley has been married for awhile, but I can't leave her off this list! Her wedding is still one of my favorites (she knows how to put on a show), but it's her kindness that gets me every time. We still are friends after all this time!

Hailey is probably our most outspoken bride. I think that's a good thing, and so do her bazillions of blog followers. She recently opened up about her difficulty in having a baby, and it made me fall in love with her all over again.  If she lived in Fayetteville still, we'd be BFFs.

Next, we have Mallory.  Another super stylish bride (see a theme here?), Mal's wedding dress took my breath away. But it started way before that. She's always had that quality!  Oh, and she was a badass gymnast at U of A. How cool right?

Lastly, we have Lauren. Her kind heart made me cry at her wedding. I'm serious! (ready her wedding post on here for more). I've never met a more REAL person, a more GIVING and THOUGHTFUL person... she really is something special!

Gah... I could have gone on and on. I totally need to do another one of these posts!!!

Throwback Thursday: #TBT to 5 Years Ago This Month

0
0

Hey everybody!

For today's Throwback Thursday, I thought I'd take a look back five years this month and see what I was up to. The highlights are below.

This shot used to be the header of the blog. Lacie is such a cool person (she's actually the assistant for Jose Villa, a great photographer - and she's pretty great too!). I love the texture and feel of this image, even five years later!

Ashley is a fabulous Benny Bride who married Clint (one of our favorite grooms, who cried saying his vows!). This session was so fun because there was still snow on the ground and the wind was nuts! I love the composition here because it was definitely a rule-breaker from the typical bridal portrait.

Kelly married Wes five years ago this month. This wedding was in Eureka Springs, and as Wes was a photographer himself, I took it as a personal mission to blow him away. :) This also is one of the only weddings I've used a tilt-shift lens (in the image below) for a pretty cool effect.

On the non-wedding front, Ellie met our favorite cake designer, Jennifer Matsubura from Shelby Lynn's Cake Shoppe in Springdale.  We've used Jennifer for all our cakes since then (my wedding cake is still my all-time favorite!). Jennifer is a Food Network star, and I feel like Ellie will someday be one too... haha!

Jessica, one of our wedding shooters, and one of the most amazing people I know (so sweet, so talented, and such a good mom) and I did a photoshoot in a dress that I accidentally spilled wine on at a wedding. Whoops!! Haha! We thought we'd go ahead and fully trash the dress.

Mariah was one five years ago.  That's crazy!  We've watched this sweet and sassy little lady grow up, and are amazed at her rockin' personality nowadays!

Brandi and Eli got married this month five years ago. We shot their Pratt Place wedding and loved the flowering that was happening and threw them in the middle of it... still one of our signature moves 5 years later!

We were also working on getting our name out there by working with boutiques... Monday's Child (now gone) was one of them, where we met many of our very favorite NWA families!  How sweet is this shot?

What a fun trip down memory lane!  Join me tomorrow for another hashtag post!!

Flashback Friday: #FBF Signe and Chad's Vista West Ranch Wedding

Hey everybody!

There are a lot of things I can control on the wedding day, and take pride in being able to do so. Some things, like weather... and like the bride's style... and like being in the right place at the right time, are obviously beyond my control. However, at Signe's wedding near Austin, TX, I feel like the stars aligned. I did my part, and God took care of the rest. I was surrounded by the best lighting all day, Signe and Chad executed their vision perfectly (and they have amazing style), and every time I pressed the shutter something great was happening! It was non-stop awesomeness the entire day! So, this Flashback Friday is dedicated to the perfect day. :)

Hey everybody!

I'm all about a good selfie. Most of the time I forget to take one, and I always kick myself later. But here are a handful of selfies of me with a Benny Bride. On a side note, you get quite the peek into my wardrobe. Haha!

Hey everybody!

Meredith and I are out in sunny Southern California photographing Liz and Demetrius' wedding this weekend. Not gonna lie, the weather is pretty fabulous! Since all her guests have now seen her in her dress, it's cool for me to put her bridal portraits on the blog. :) Her wedding will be coming soon, so stay tuned!

Happy 3rd Anniversary to Meredith (and me)!

Hey everybody!

Today wasn't spent like a normal anniversary. Mere and I woke up in LA (or actually Long Beach Island in Cali), spent most of the day traveling, and then met our girls at home for a low-key night. As much as we travel and eat yummy food at great restaurants, my favorite nights are the normal ones.

I feel truly blessed today.

Hey everybody!

Our California wedding is ready to post! Yay! Mere and I entered a sea of blues and greens at Liz and Demetrius' wedding in Riverside CA. The church was breathtaking, and Liz put a lot of personal touches on the wedding (she did many things herself)! Today we are setting the scene with some of our favorite details.

Liz and Demetrius' Wedding Story

Hey everybody!

Liz and Demetrius' wedding was a great way to kick off the new season! It was filled with fun, great colors, and good dancing! :) I'm normally one to get on the dancefloor a little bit with the guests (and my camera), but I'm not gonna lie... I was a little intimidated by everyone's moves. Haha!

Let's continue the story where we left off yesterday, shall we?

Tressa's Proposal at Baum Stadium!

0
0

Hey everybody!

Meredith and I have been waiting for this call! When Ben reached out to us recently to get us to shoot his proposal to Tressa, it took everything we had not to: 1) scream, and 2) call Tressa! Haha! She's been such a good friend to us for years now, and is one of our most loyal fans (as you know, loyalty is like my number one). Anytime we chat it turns into an hour conversation that seems like 5 minutes: she's just SUCH a great person to be around!

Fast forward to TODAY!

Selfies on the dugout at Baum Stadium was a pretty slick trick to get Tressa up there with him. What's more, he asked some of Tressa's friends to be out in the left field bleachers holding up a sign that says "Will you marry me, Tressa?" - pretty sweet right? She of course said yes, and then Mere and I popped out of our disguises and hiding places to give hugs!

Congratulations Tressa! We love you!!!

What's Hot: Custom Gold Foil on Save the Dates

Hey everybody!

There is a new sexy save the date craze hitting the streets, and we love it! Custom gold foil on save the dates are a great way to draw some attention and make a statement. This custom save the date with gold lettering below is the one I created for me sweet friend, Kirsten, for her wedding later this year in Fayetteville. Don't ya love it?

I've got another one to show soon, but I have to make sure the Benny Bride has sent them out. You'll wanna see the cool idea on that save the date... I promise!

We recently teamed up with some of our favorite NWA Wedding Vendors - Romance Diamond (where I bought Mere's engagement ring), and Tesori Bridal and Formal (Fayetteville's new bridal boutique), and with Helen Wisner (Miss Arkansas USA this year) to do a fabulous shoot! I kinda love it.

Introducing Baby Denver!

Hey everybody!

Sweet little Denver slept through the entire newborn portrait session, which was perfect because he let us mold him into different positions, roll him around, and all sorts of stuff. But for your teaser, I just had to choose this shot of Denver with his parent's hands. It's just so sentimental and sweet.

More from this coming soon!

Hey everybody!

How fun is this!?! The Huffington Post (aka HuffPo) asked me recently if they could feature one of our images for a story they were doing, and now it's live! The story is about "offbeat wedding shoes" and they loved the picture of Christy and Kurt in their yellow converse shoes. Check out the link below for more, and scroll down to see the image. So fun! I love our creative couples!
