Faires Family in NYC

$

Hey everybody!

I recently got to hang out with one of the coolest families I know. The Faires family, Arkansas natives who are living the dream in NYC, while maintaining roots here (in NWA) had me over to their rad pad in one of the coolest NYC neighborhoods I've ever seen for their family portraits. It wasn't too cold so we took a stroll around said neighborhood for some fun family pics. Have a peek at a few of my favorite shots here...

Da boys. I think about this picture and I'm thankful that they will have this moment all their lives. Dan is one cool dad, for sure.

And this one with momma.  Dasha is just the sweetest!

They weren't interested in Mom and Dad kissing, which I thought was hilarious. That's a good looking family there.

Smiles all around with a little backlight. My favorite!

Dan and Dasha are the super cool owners of Fairlane Station (where we are hosting the Benny Awards this weekend!) - it's a great venue if you're interested!  Check it out: fairlanestation.com

Hey everybody!

I got asked mooooonnnnnths ago about being featured in a new magazine coming out in Arkansas about weddings.  Honestly, I completely forgot about it until I got a mysterious package in the mail.  I opened it up and remembered sending in a few of my favorite NWA wedding images, which I'm happy to say got selected as the dominant photo on each of the spreads I entered!  Yay!!  Lookie!

Hey everybody!

Months and months of planning, prepping, buying, and photographing has led up to today!  Today Meredith is announcing her new company, Oh Cecelia, an online boutique she affectionately calls, "a curious collection for your little lady."

I couldn't be more proud of her from taking her little idea and turning it into this reality. She has a great eye for kids fashion (apparently cute kids clothes that are both affordable and stylish are hard to find, but she's done it!).  If you are a parent of girls age 0-6, visit ohcecelia.com and find yourself some gems!

Click the picture below to head there now!  Three cheers for Mere!

Success: 2015 Benny Awards at Fairlane Station

Hey everybody!

Last night we hosted our 7th annual Benny Awards for our fabulous and amazing couples.  This year's event was held at Fairlane Station in Springdale.  The space was perfect for our party with the gray room serving as our bar and Photo Booth with a table of sweet from Shelby Lynn's Cake Shoppe (lots of pics of these tasties below!), and then opening up the big room for our awards show.

My favorite, Retrotender, made a couple OUTSTANDING custom cocktails based on our favorite drinks.  Seriously... if you're a Benny Bride... you MUST have Brandon come to your wedding!!!

Me with my two best friends... Kirsten, then Tom (who was our DJ, and can DJ your wedding... email me for details!)

The big room was transformed into a gorgeous lounge thanks to Eventures Party Rentals!

Jennifer at Shelby Lynn's made an amazing spread of yummies.  And Julie at Jules Design brought in some beautiful florals for us!

Mini Bundt cakes!  Double dipped strawberries, french macaroons, and custom cookies!

How cool are these chairs?!  And a day bed to relax!

Another shot of the beautiful mini bundt cakes from Shelby Lynn's...

My favorite two treats: on the left, white chocolate dipped oreos... but SUPER fancy!
On the right cupcakes with 24 KARAT GOLD FLAKES!  Are you serious???

After the awards, we surprised everybody with all-we-could-eat street tacos... they were insane!

We brought no backdrop... no props... we call it "Blank Booth!"  :)  Super silly and awesome!

SUCH a fun night!!!  Thanks to all who came, laughed at my non-funny jokes, and drank and ate and had a merry time!  We adore you and are so thankful for you!!

Shindig Calligraphy Class: Mere's Takeaway

Hey everybody!

Mere here!

I had the MOST fun at Shindig Paperie learning how to write in calligraphy! I went in worried; I have the craziest handwriting! But calligraphy extrodinaire, Janna Wilson, made it so easy to catch on to her fancy ways! Shindig and Janna collaborate several times a year for classes, and I HIGHLY recommend going to one! I came home with everything I needed to address Thank-you notes beautifully! Yay! The intimate class setting, located inside Shindig, allowed Janna to work with each of us individually. I’m SO glad I went, and you should go too! Follow Shindig on Instagram (@shindigpaperie) for class schedules!

Film Wedding at Meadowood Napa Valley

Hey everybody!

I knew Morgan and Hunter's wedding at Meadowood in Napa Valley was going to be special. I knew I wanted to treat it a little special too. When we boarded the flight from XNA to wine country, a packed my film camera and a few rolls of Fuji film to accompany me. The venue itself, Meadowood Napa Valley Luxury Resort, is a dream! It's definitely one of the finest venues we've ever photographed, and a fabulous place for a wedding. For similar shots, check out my blog posts shot with my normal camera for this fabulous wedding at Meadowood Napa Valley.

The feel of the grain with film is so unique. I love to get outside my comfort zone (hello... no back of the camera to preview here!)...

Hey everybody!

Y'all... I'm in love with this little girl. And there's more good news: she loves me too!  I've somehow managed to turn Cece into a daddy's girl (along with her sis, Ellie).  Anytime I walk in the door and call out, she starts running for me. She always comes and sits be my on the couch, or at the piano.

And seriously, y'all... it doesn't get better than this.

If you think this little babe looks cute in these clothes, hit up Mere's new little girls' boutique, Oh Cecelia

Flashback Friday: Honoring J Bailey Occasions

Hey everybody!

Benfield Photography would not be where it is today without J Bailey Occasions. Jenessa Bailey, who started the wedding planning company around the same time I moved Benfield Photography to Arkansas, was my first wedding friend in Northwest Arkansas. She probably thought I was a total creep by reaching out to her out of nowhere (I actually think it was on myspace! Seriously!), but I'm glad she agreed to hang out and chat wedding biz all those years ago. I remember asking her at that meeting what I should say to brides to make them realize they needed Jenessa to help plan their wedding (I had a meeting with a bride coming up), and less than a week later, we booked our first shared wedding.

The years following, we worked most of our weddings together. I have trouble explaining it... how we were able to get all the same weddings... but it boiled down to our brides saw that we worked really well together, had a fun time working together, and made the entire planning process and wedding day go so smoothly. Jenessa taught me a lot about weddings, and helped my business more than she probably realizes.  When she decided to stop doing weddings so she could focus on mommyhood, I was kind of heartbroken; however, I adore her two kiddos and know she made a good choice (now that they're a little older, she owns and runs Swanky Sooie in her spare time!)

The best part of it all, however, is that Meredith and I gained a true friend. One of the absolute best people I know. We're still friends after all these years, and we're still thankful for her.

Here are some the detail and design highlights from over the years of working with Jenessa...

Lisa and Joe's Bentonville wedding (with a touch of Alice in Wonderland)

Jonna's ethereal wedding at the Inn at Carnall Hall...

Jessica and Brent's wedding at Matt Lane Farm...

Taryn and Ryan's Pratt Place wedding...

Brittany's darling private home wedding...

Another from Taryn's wedding...

Seth and Chelsea's Memphis wedding...

I just had to show this one (from Felicia and Casey Dick's wedding in Springale)...
Jenessa and her team created the ruffled effect by hand-pinning the linens - more than 3 THOUSAND pins, y'all!  That's going above and beyond!

Well, I'm not sure where all that came from! I guess I was just reminiscing and once it started, it just kept pouring!!

While J-Bai doesn't do weddings anymore, the need for a planner is as important as ever.  Let me know if you're a Benny Bride and don't know who to use!  I'll get you set up!

Off To Nashville!

Hey everybody!

I'm off to the Music City... Nashville, for Imaging USA! It's one of my favorite cities in the world (one of only a few places I could ever live!) and I'm looking forward to reconnecting with some of my photographer friends, eating yummy food (Nashville is one of my favorite food cities too!), and shooting.

Yes, shooting. I think it's important for photographers to stay inspired by seeing new things, or old things in a new way. One of the best ways to do that is to create personal projects for yourself. I'm in the midst of such a project right now, which I am excited to share with you all soon!

Also, we're revamping our approach to our kiddo photography, and we're shooting with one of my favorite families in the entire world (who are moving to NWA soon! Yay!). Stay tuned for that! I think y'all will really love it!!
Here's a shot from our last session... aren't they a model family?!

Hey everybody!

Rachel and I are currently in Nashville for Imaging USA, and have been having such a fun time working (our job is fun, y'all!). Today, I'm going to be sharing some of my favorite fashion pics of our great friend, Bonnie, who we brought to Nashville with us to start working on a fun (and currently secret) project! She's been one of my favorite people since I first met her because of her super fun and outgoing personality (much like me with a redbull!). Turns out, she's a pretty fun travel partner too, knows the words to EVERY Disney song, and kept us entertained for hours on end. Benny Brides, We always love when our brides have Bonnie do their hair (hint, hint! She's fabulous!)

Today's post is part one of the three-part shoot of our little fashionista friend. Take a peek at my faves!

Y'all... how cool is Nashville?! I absolutely LOVED shooting here!! More to come! (and thanks Rach, for this shot of me!)

On another note... yesterday our blogged surpassed 4 MILLION hits! That's so crazy, and I'm so thankful!! I just love you all! I appreciate your friendship, support, and love! XO!

Sunday Superthoughts: Invincible Summer

$

Hey everybody!

I haven't done a Sunday Superthought in WAY too long!  I asked Mere if she had a favorite quote I could think on, then talk about.  She gave me this one, and it's a good one.

In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. - Albert Camus

Most quotes I use are things that I can apply directly to my life. Today, however, is the opposite. I think you can apply this to your life by saying that when things are bad/dark/dreary you maintain a positive/hopeful/sunny outlook on life. Is that true for you?

It's not for me! I find that when things are looking rough, I tend to get caught up in the negativity/gloom/darkness and let it consume me.  I revel/dwell in it.

Maybe I needed to hear this today because it's something I need to work on. When things aren't going my way, I can muster up the gumption to look sadness in the face and say, "you're not going to affect me today."

That's a pretty nice thought.  Wish me luck!
