TBT: Mallory+Jake's Wedding Day, Three Years Ago

Hey everybody!

I'm doing it a bit different today. It's Thursday... Throwback Thursday... and yesterday Mallory reached out to me to say that she went back through her wedding images, all of them, and then said a bunch of nice things.  I asked if I could post what she said and asked her if she wanted to write out a little something.  It's below.  I love my couples so much and I'm so honored to capture memories for them!

Talk to you soon,
Dale

Dale,
Three years ago today you captured (in my biased opinion...haha) the best image of your career. This single image captured every ounce of a "perfect wedding day." We chose to get married on my late grandmother’s birthday, June 22 to honor her. She loved a hot sunny summer day to work in her yard and the day of our wedding was nothing short of a hot southern summer day. In this image we will refer to that as the infamous "Benny Backlight" that was absolutely stunning. This image also captured the absolute essence of my wedding gown which also happens to be my mother’s wedding gown from 1980. YES, 1980…no designer for this country gal. The imperfections you see in the wrinkles of my gown was because it was so old and had been preserved for so long. I remember one of my bridesmaids being so persistent about getting those wrinkles out and I finally said just let it be. When I saw this photo I thought to myself, WOW those wrinkles reveal the age of the dress and just how perfectly sentimental it was in its condition just like that. Imperfection is not often accepted the day of a wedding, however the small imperfection of the wrinkles displayed through this image is the true beauty of something old and borrowed in my case. Ironically, imperfection was perfection in this image.

They say the perfect gift for any occasion is a gift that keeps on giving. While planning my wedding I was constantly asked the same question "what means the most to you?" Some girls say it’s the flowers, some say it’s the music, some say it’s the food but ALL say "but I want to make sure I remember that day more than anything!" My answer was always the same, "the memories mean the most to me." My biggest piece of advice for all brides-to-be is to remember that flowers die, cakes get eaten, decorations eventually come down, candles burn out, shoes go in and out of style but the memories are FOREVER. The only way to capture those candles, shoes, décor, wedding cakes and flowers are with photographs. Those memories are relived through photos for a lifetime following your big day. That, my friend is the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for continuing to give the gift of memories through all of your photos even 3 years later.

Hey everybody!

Sometimes when I'm on a shoot I get a shot that I just freak out about. I know that I nailed the moment and exposure and everything, and I can't wait to blog it. Today, that happened during my family session with the Brown family. After shooting some of all four of the family, I did a few with just Chelsea and Camilla, who recently turned 6 months old. They're both precious and I love this image!  More from this session coming soon!

Hey everybody!

I know I've been doing a lot of anniversaries lately but I'm just in love with all my couples! Today is one of my very favorite couples, and both of these two I consider true friends. These two are so positive and have a relationship with the Lord, who has recently blessed them with a baby (in addition to Dobby). I am so happy for them and want to congratulate them on two years of marriage!

Hey everybody!

Y'all! OBSESSED! This Alaska wedding I photographed at the Westmark in Fairbanks was so legit. The planner, Erin from Your Story AK, totally killed it, and I'm so excited to show you these! Her details had lots of rose gold (yessss!) accents and beautiful florals. Check this out!

Alaska Wedding Portrait Photography of Julie and Taylor

Hey everybody!

When I ran to grab lunch around noon on Julie and Taylor's wedding day, I overheard the server talking about how a storm was rolling in and it wasn't going to pass through until the next day.  I stopped what I was doing and started praying that I'd be able to shoot some bride and groom portraits outside without rain.  And then I texted one of my friends and asked her to pray too, haha! I didn't want them to fly me all the way to Alaska and not get some cool outdoor shots, y'all!

Well, when the time to start rolled around, the rain came in. Dang. Started praying again. Texted friend again.  Ceremony came. It was an hour long.  Near about the 45 minute mark I took a peek outside and... HELLO SUN!  So off we went to shoot our outdoor portrait session. I was a happy photographer.

Crystal Bridges Engagement Session for Simone and Brett

Hey everybody!

When I first sat down to lunch with Simone about her wedding, I didn't know what was about to come out of her mouth. The conversation quickly evolved from wonder to excitement, as she let me know that 1) she was getting married in Brazil, 2) she loved my photography, and 3) she wanted me to come to photographer her wedding! What?! Um, yes! Brazil has been a bucket-list location and I'm so thankful for clients who trust me and believe in my art enough to bring me back to their home countries to photograph their special day. We also scheduled a local engagement session (they live in NWA) at Crystal Bridges and downtown Bentonville on a gorgeous summer evening. Here are some of my favorites from this session:

Hey everybody!

If you have my book, 5 MINUTE FIX, you'll know that I LOVE the program Photo Mechanic (normally 150 bucks, and I put it on every computer I have). Right now, there is a special of all these amazing things, including photo mechanic, for only 99 dollars! I just purchased it because I needed to install PM on my new computer and all these other great things came with it... I look forward to playing with the album design software to see if it'll save me time, some cool lightroom and photoshop presets, a few video tutorials, and a lot of other fun stuff. Photographers, you're kinda crazy not to get this!

https://fotopromos.com - it expires on July 12, so head there now (I get no commission or anything... I just love this bundle!)

Sunday Superthoughts: Humbled.

Hey everybody!

I can't help but feel blessed. Recently I had the unique opportunity to photograph a wedding in a place I didn't think I'd ever photograph a wedding: Alaska!  The dream-come-true job was such an encouragement from me because the bride, Julie, just did a search for photographers from all over the country and chose me to come to her hometown of Fairbanks for her wedding. It's such a touching sentiment.

When I flew to Alaska (that's a long flight!), I landed in Anchorage. Anchorage is just about the most beautiful place I've ever seen. I connected there and took a one-hour prop-plane flight to Fairbanks. Let me say this... it was the most beautiful hour of my life as I started out the window at what the Lord created. Such beauty. I couldn't peel my eyes, or my camera phone, away from the window.  My time in Alaska was an adventure for sure, as is any time you find yourself in a new place, or with new people, or new surroundings.  I'm thankful that God uses things like this to grow me and shape me more into the man He wants me to be. I know that I am nothing... and that it is from God that these blessings are on me.  I'm not a self-made man. I'm a tool the Lord uses for His kingdom.

So, yeah... I can't help but feel blessed. So many out there in America (and the world) are looking for work that makes them happy and fulfilled and allows them to pay their bills.  God has blessed me beyond my wildest dreams to set me up with a profession that does that for me.  I hope I share with you all enough how thankful I am for you.  I have so many clients who have been so loyal to me, so excited for me, and such an encouragement to me that I don't even know what to say.  Thank you sounds like too little.
