Sunday Super Thoughts: I Won't Let the Past...

Hey everybody!

Welcome to another edition of Sunday Super Thoughts! These new weekly quote posts will hopefully inspire you, teach you, motivate you, calm you, or awaken you.

Last night, Mere and I went to see Jason Mraz (our favorite musician) and I thought that we'd share some of his brilliant lines in these posts. This week's quote: I won't let the past get in my way...




And now some thoughts on this...
If you've followed the blog for a long time, you might know that I came from pretty humble beginnings. My mom, my older brother, and my older sister all dropped out of high school, and there wasn't much expectation for me to blaze a new trail for my life. It's difficult to see a life for yourself that you don't even realize exists. But I didn't let my past get in my way. I was the first person in my family to go to college, finish college, go to grad school, finish grad school, teach high school, and teach college. (On a related note, my younger brother followed in my footsteps and defied some pretty significant odds. He also finished grad school and still teaches college)

Another thought... sometimes we mess up. I know that I've messed up plenty. I mean... PLENTY! I have things in my past that could have really changed my future if I held on to it, and let it. And honestly, some of those I STILL have trouble letting go of... which is why my motto this week is: I WON'T LET MY PAST GET IN MY WAY.

If you're struggling with mistakes you've made in the past, or with things that have happened to you in the past, this is the week to cast them away! Forget the past. Don't let it get in your way!!
