Sunday Super Thoughts: Heart Too Big for the Body, or Why I Didn't Want to Have Another Child

Hey everybody!

This week, Ellie started 2nd grade. For those of you who have kiddos, you know that this is super crazy to think about... kids grow up too fast!

This week's superthought comes once again from my favorite, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and I used an image I took of Ellie before her first day of school, as I've done each year.

And now the thought: We find delight in the beauty and happiness of children that makes the heart too big for the body.

And now some thoughts...

I'm going to be real with you. I needed a little convincing to have another child. I love Ellie indefinitely, and unconditionally. She's an amazing little kid, with an amazing heart. She gives, and is one of the most thoughtful people (not just kids) that I know. I could cry if I think too much about it. Thinking of sharing my "Ellie love" with another child has been a scary thought for as long as I can remember. She deserves to be loved fully.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some people put a box on love. Some people try to give it a finite amount - aka... "I love you {this much}" as you hold out your arms as far as they go. What I've learned about love is that you can't love too much. It's an amazing thing really... If I thought there was no more room in my heart for love because of how much I love Ellie (and Mere), I'm already in love with the baby in Mere's belly. The miracle about all this, and what I've learned along the way, is that I don't love Ellie any less, and I don't love Mere any less (if anything, I love her more!). It's honestly like my heart is now bigger than my body.
The heart doesn't have limits, and you should live your life loving as if you already know this! Be free to give love! Maybe that means acknowledging how much you love your creator, maybe it means fixing a past relationship with someone you care about, or maybe it means giving in to someone who's trying to love you.
Or, maybe it's realizing it's okay to love a new child when you want your first child to have all the love she deserves.
Talk to you soon,
Dale
